Netflix LGBT Movies To Watch With Pride | Written By: Lee
By now everyone is aware of the mass shooting that happened in my hometown of Orlando, Fl on June 12th at Pulse nightclub. The entire world world has done a brilliant job uniting during this tragedy and the out pour of support we as a city have received is touching. I thought it might be nice to recommend a handful of LGBT movies you can watch to remind us exactly what love is love is love really means. It doesn’t have to be one man and one woman. Love comes in all different types.
Three Netflix LGBT Movies – Watch With Pride
The Kids Are All Right
The Kids Are Alright is a movie starring Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo. Two lesbians are happily raising their teenagers when said teenagers invite their sperm donor into the picture. Boundaries are crossed, confusion sets in and the truth is no one is alright. Although this is a Hollywood hit with 4 Oscar nominations and the Golden Globe for Best Picture it really does cover the bases so don’t let the hype scare you away.
Jenny’s Wedding
Jenny’s Wedding also has a cast of famous characters such as Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel but it is still independent. When Jenny, played by Heigl, comes out to her family they are less than thrilled with her “decision”. They even ask if she is punishing them for something they’ve done in the past? Will she move forward with her wedding or will her love, that she has kept hidden for so many years, come crashing down on top of her? This movie is less about the relationship with the girlfriend and more about the relationship with the family and the announcement.
Rent
How do you measure a year? Rent is a musical originally a Broadway musical (1996) brought to the big screen with the majority of the original cast in 2005. Jesse L Martin and Taye Diggs are part of that original cast and Rosario Dawson takes over an important role in this movie revival. It’s a modern day (early 90’s) setting that addresses a lot of real life issues for homosexuals. For example the death of a major homosexual male character from AIDS will rip your heart out. More than one character in Rent has AIDS and not all of them are gay, some are from drug use. There is also a drag queen character who is incredible amounts of fun you’ll want to get to know. I’m waiting for the day I can show Rent to Jason and Spencer because it is one of my favorite musicals. The lyrics stick with you, well, forever. And there won’t be a dry eye in your house.
There are so many more movies in the LGBT movie section on Netflix. I’m only just discovering them myself, my readers are sharing them with me. Please feel free to leave any that you have enjoyed (or that haven’t been enjoyable) in the comment section below. And give my three choices a try because I’m sure you’ll love them. Netflix has something for everyone on their streaming so you’ll never be bored or disappointed.
